Wine Tips
#1 Tip: Copy of the Wine List.
Getting information from a wine list is like
finding gold. Not only can you order wines by
the glass, but you might find a great deal.
One way to do this is to simply ask for a copy
of the wine list from restaurant, wine shop,
and/or winery. Another is most wineries will
post their varietals on websites. This is a
great way to find a 1998 Symmetry from Alexander
Valley or a 1.5ltr bottle of Phelps 99 Insignia.
#2 Tip: Leave the Perfume off.
Recently, on a Passport trip, I was asked to
ensure that no one wore perfumes. Simply cologne
and perfumes can distort, alter, and infringe
upon others. While we need to smell good, perfume
is not the only culprit. Ginger Body Souffle,
Blackberry Body Mist, and Chamomille Body Deodorant
all carry a pleasant scent, but will affect
the smell of the wine. When you know you are
going to try wines, put on no scents.
Tip #3 Tie it back
Serving wine is hard enough, you have to get
the wine, then pull the cork, then pour. Ensure
you don’t add any decorative hair. If
you shed like a cat, tie your hair back. Men
are guilty of this too, try to restrain from
running your hands thru your hair, easily pick
up hair that way.
Also, placing a napkin over the bottle as you
pour also “grabs” stray hairs.
